About the Speaker: Professor Gu Yun

Gu Yun, Chief Physician, Ph.D, visiting scholar of University of Virginia School of Medicine. After completing her PhD studies, she held the post of Deputy Director of the Internal Medicine Department in Longhua Hospital (affliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine) from 1999 to 2005. Prof Gu is the deputy chief of the teaching and research department of internal medicine since 2002, she was promoted to chief physician of the Geriatric department in 2005.

She has been actively involved in clinical practice, teaching as well as research. In the recent years, she accumulated over 50 original contributions, participated in the compilation of 7 professional articles. In 1996 and 1997, Professor Gu was recognised as an outstanding youth in both Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shanghai, and was granted special subsidy. In 2009, she was selected as an excellent clinical physician at a National level. Professor Gu was under the tutelage of several prominent physicians such as China’s famous Physician Zhu Liangchun, Physician Liu Jiaxiang specialising in Oncology, Physician Chen Xiangjun specialising in Rheumatology, Physician Lin Shuimiao specializing in Geriatrics, Physician Chen Yiping specialising in Nephrology and Physician Ma Guitong for Gastroenterology. In 2010, she was recognised as a youth Chinese Practitioner of Longhua Hospital (affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine). Professor Gu Yun specialises in using Chinese Medicine for the management and treatment of many geriatric-related diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases such as arteriosclerosis, vertigo, coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, gout etc.), cognitive decline in the elderly, chronic and functional diseases such as menopause, insomnia, constipation in elderly etc).
